Hey all, I started today! Yay! Thanks for sharing your success tips and struggles at the meeting last night. I read some--although it looks like from the wrong chapters! It was about David and Absalom, and David sending "his guys" to kindof spy on and mess up Absalom's plans. Anyway, I didn't read it all, but I read some. It's a start.
Welcome Anita! Glad to see you started and it doesn't matter what or how much your reading - just that you are spending time in God's word so we can have a stronger relationship with Him! Way to go!
Right off the bat, I'm reading how seven people were killed to rid the famine...I think a very important point that was brought up in our WOW meeting and here again in my study Bible is that GOD DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES!!! What appears unfair to us may be the long-range of results of evil deliberately chosen by our predecessors.
"As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless" 2 Sam 22:31.
As I read through some of David's words/songs I questioned some things he said - like He will grant me my every desire...that's not the God I know - He doesn't grant us our every desire, unless it is the will of God. My study Bible helped clarify by saying that much of what David spoke was tainted with self-interest or mistaken concepts. But David was conscious that God's spirit was often at work within him, inspiring the words of his psalms. I guess that kinda goes back to my other point - why would this be in the Bible if the concepts David was saying were tainted or mistaken?!
