Last Saturday, as I was logged what I did for Chorewars during Sabbath, which was just swishing & swiping and tubbing and scrubbing, I thought to myself that I really shouldn't be doing this on Sabbath and sorta justified it by saying if someone came over, I would want my bathroom looking clean...I try to make my Sabbath be a day that I don't typically do what I do during the week, so going forward, I plan to for-go my swishing and swiping and scrubbing and tubbing during Sabbath hours...thanks for the reminder Jeremiah! (17:19)

Hey Jen, glad that the summary of "Have A New Kid..." seems helpful to you. I hope and pray your group will benefit in their family life...
Regards

We have really been evaluating our sabbath routines, too. I grew up in a family that was pretty loose in their definition of no working on Sabbath. But the more I read abmission stories about people who are willing to go to major extremes just to avoid taking a single test on Sabbat, made me rethink how I may have been flippant with my work.
I mean we have to wake up, and get dressed, but I don't have to empty my dishwasher, but do I really want dishes stacking up in my sink?
So some things I wait until after sundown or try to do it Friday. I actually have been having better Sabbaths, because I can really relax Friday nights and Sabbath mornings aren't crazy like before. The snacks are already ready, the diaper bag is already packed, we just grab and go.
Now if we can just work on going to bed earlier, then we won't be so tired on Sabbath...

I started reading "having a Mary heart in a Martha world" and I can totally, and I mean - totally - relate to Martha and I could see myself doing the exact same thing...but the more I try to be like Mary - it makes me think about how we should be treating the Sabbath as if Jesus was in our house...so maybe those dishes could pile up in our sink, the bathroom doesn't need tiding up, our chores/preparation put on hold for 24 hours so we can spend that day "sitting at Jesus' feet".

hmmm..and here I was thinking you all waited until after sundown to do your chorewars on Saturday hehe

I admit that I'm loving my month off the competition so I don't feel like I HAVE to start cleaning at sundown, although I've been scheming some new ideas which may help me when I compete next month haha...and it did make the Sabbath seem a little more restful when it was from 'stop chores' to 'start chores' :) now I basically just have a busy Sunday trying to catch up :) (when I was a teenager my dad used to say it was from 'tv off' to 'tv on' hehe) and yes...I do load my dishwasher after lunch on Sabbath sometimes Staci...but not always and not always on the other non-Sabbath days either because I'm naturally lazy :)

but I agree that on Sabbath God is concerned with us spending time with Him (everyday He is actually, but especially on His special day which He set aside just for that purpose every week)...so it's a heart question rather than a "what can or can I not do on Sabbath" am I more concerned about how my house looks or my relationship with God? that was the difference between the hearts of Mary & Martha...it wasn't the work that was wrong...it was the focus
